Need to find a last-minute gift for that girly girl in your life? Makeup could be perfect! Or it could be a disaster. Here are some dos and don’ts for buying beauty items, from makeup artist Heather Adessa:
Only purchase makeup for someone you know. If you don’t know what they like, don’t purchase makeup. Get a gift card instead, or work with something you know they might like.
Don’t purchase any types of face creams or serums unless it’s something they already use. If you don’t know your friend’s skin type, they might be stuck with a product that doesn’t work for them.
If they love color, eyeshadow palettes are great gifts. There are tons of limited-edition ones available at this time of year for purchase. Bronzers, highlighters and shimmery blushes also work well for most skin tones. Check out the colors, think of your friend’s taste (not your own!), and work from there.
Recommendation: Smashbox Eye Wish Palette – great assortment of colors, fun for anyone who is a makeup artist at heart: $45
We’d also add to be careful about perfumes and body sprays. There is the obvious problem of possible allergies, but scents are also something that people tend to be very particular about. Unless you know the specific fragrance they wear, go with a gift card to the shop instead.
A beauty gift that never goes out of style: spa treatments. You can never go wrong with a full-body massage or a mud scrub. Help someone relax after the hectic holidays!
