101 Ways to a Happier, More Vibrant, and Energized You

“Being happier requires you to thinking about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right.” – Gretchen Rubin

We all could use an energy boost or pick-me-up — we just forget how. Simply put, we get so caught up doing what is required of us day-to-day that we forget to take five minutes to breathe (which makes all the difference in our mood and energy levels). Ultimately, happiness is what we are seeking for a more fulfilled life, and we shouldn’t forget how to achieve that. So we at Betterfly put our minds together to come up ...

Q&A with Pamela Miles, Reiki Master

Pamela Miles joins Betterfly and other Reiki teachers/practitioners in a chat to discuss Reiki in the medical field AND self-initiations. Pamela Miles has been practicing Reiki since 1986 and has most recently has been seen speaking about Reiki on the Dr. Oz show.
What advice do you have on how to begin the process of collaboration in the medical field?
I am always so happy when people ask questions about medical collaboration because this is an important way for people who wouldn’t otherwise know about Reiki practice to have access to its benefits. And ...

Top 10 Things you Might Have not Known About Reiki (But Should!)

Reiki could be one of the most mysterious and phenomenal experiences in our lives. If we just let it.
Reiki is a holistic healing practice that promotes wellness and balance, and reduces stress. It was developed by Mikao Usui the early 1920s, and brought to the US by Usui’s student Chujiro Hayashi and his student Hawayo Takata in the late 1930s. Since then, Reiki practice has been taught and adapted by various teachers worldwide. To learn more about what Reiki is all about, Betterfly gathered a group of Reiki practioners into an online chat room ...

Top 5 Zumba Class Songs of 2011: Betterfly Study on Music in Zumba Classes

Zumba®

Zumba® is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program that has taken the world by storm since its inception in the U.S. in 2000. Its program is designed in such a way to benefit any person, regardless of their current fitness level, age, or weight. And here’s the kicker: Zumba® actually yields results. Those who have taken classes can verify why Zumba® is not just any kind of fitness program: it eliminates the effort of working out by creating an exciting, high-energy club-like atmosphere (minus the shots of Patron).
Zumba® itself is ...

Take Photographs, not Snapshots: Six Captivating Photographs

Let me add a disclaimer before I start spewing off knowledge I picked up around Google: I am not an all-knowing guru when it comes to photography. I am the person at parties who will run around with my badly cracked point-and-shoot camera and snap pictures with a high-intensity flash all night long with no shame or tactic. That said, I still have a passionate interest in photography.
Maybe it’s not an age-old question, but the debate still stands: is your picture a photograph or a snapshot? What determines if a ...

Parkour in the Betterfly House

Have you ever wondered what parkour was all about? Well, we did.
In an effort to learn more about our Betterists and the community surrounding parkour, Betterfly invited a few NYC traceurs (that’s the term for practitioners of parkour) to the office for some small talk and back flips (see our video below of our guests doing back flips in the office). Parkour is the physical discipline that focuses on navigating around any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment. While most of us experience the city ...

Bridge – It’s Good for Your Brain

We all have "senior moments", some of us more often than others. Wouldn't you like a way to reduce their frequency, and sharpen your thinking? Wouldn't you like it even more if that way came in the form of a game? Have you heard of a game called bridge? Betterist Mila Antonova presented at Ignite NYC, speaking on how bridge helped her conquer both math and English.

Revitalizing Events & Boot Camp with Lacey Stone

This past Sunday, Revitalizing Events and Dana Walsh of FitCeleb hosted a wellness event sponsored by G Series Fit and Popchips, and Betterfly came out to check out the goodies.
The highlight? A butt-kickin’ boot camp-style workout with Lacey Stone.
Our reaction?
Maybe we need to spend less time behind our desks. Lacey made things really fun with relay-style competitions, but she really kicked our butts!
For 40 minutes we were jumping, sprinting, pushup-ing and resistance band-ing, fueled by G Series Fit 3-part formula.
We seriously wouldn’t have made it through without the hydration. And ...

Spice up your Wednesday

It's Wednesday. The middle of the week. Equi-distant between dragging yourself out of bed on Monday morning and slipping on your dancing shoes Friday night. It also seems to be the day when the ladies get to spice it up, as is evidenced from our sizzlin’ selection of classes today.
What are you doing to spice up your Wednesday? Burlesque? Latin dance? Jalapeno peppers?
